Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sterling silver bookmarks gained significant popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras as literacy rates rose and reading became a widespread leisure activity, often produced as luxury gifts or commemorative pieces.

These items were predominantly crafted from solid sterling silver, often featuring hand-engraved detailing, embossed motifs, or cast decorative finials, and were stamped with official British assay office hallmarks.

Authenticity is verified by checking for clear hallmark stamps, including the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the year of assay.

Such small decorative items are typically displayed on open bookshelves, placed atop coffee table art books, or kept on a home office desk to add a touch of heritage craftsmanship.

Care involves gentle cleaning with a specialised microfibre cloth and mild silver polish only when necessary, avoiding abrasive materials to preserve the original patina and hallmark details.
