Georgian silver tankards typically display classical proportions, robust handles, and often intricate repousse or chased decoration reflecting the artistic trends of the 18th century.

These vessels were handcrafted from sterling silver using techniques such as raising from a flat sheet of metal, casting for handles, and hand-chasing for surface ornamentation.

Authentic pieces are identified through hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include the makers mark, town mark (such as Exeter), standard mark, and date letter.

An antique silver tankard can be integrated into modern spaces by using it as a striking decorative object on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or sideboard to add metallic texture and historical contrast.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using specialised non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to preserve the patina and avoid damaging the intricate surface details.
