A caddy spoon is a small specialty spoon specifically designed for measuring loose tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, which gained immense popularity during the Georgian period due to the high value of imported tea.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver using traditional silversmithing techniques such as raising, hammering, and detailed bright-cut engraving to create textured decorative motifs.

Authentic pieces feature clear hallmarks stamped into the metal, which typically include the makers mark, standard mark for sterling silver, city assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the active period of the smith.

Antique silver items can be displayed inside glass-fronted cabinets, arranged in shadow boxes on walls, or styled on sideboards using specialised silver display stands to highlight their historical craftsmanship.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a mild, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to preserve the patina, and stored in tarnish-resistant cloth in a dry environment.
