Replica Roman spoons, often styled after ancient artefacts such as the cochlearium, gained popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as interest in classical archaeology surged among British silversmiths.

These pieces are crafted from British sterling silver, typically stamped with traditional hallmarks denoting the assay office, standard of silver, and year of manufacture, often utilizing traditional casting and hand-finishing methods.

Authentication relies on checking the stamped hallmarks for the specific date letter, makers mark, and lion passant, alongside examining the original velvet-lined presentation case for period-appropriate typography and construction.

Cased items of this scale lend themselves well to display within glass-fronted cabinets, on bookshelves, or styled on a sideboard as a point of historical curiosity and conversation.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant lined cases and cleaning them infrequently with a specialized non-abrasive silver cloth to protect the underlying metal and any remaining hallmarks.
