Antique glass should be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water using mild detergent and dried immediately with a lint-free cloth; avoid dishwashers, harsh chemicals, and sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking.

An antique glass of this nature is best showcased inside a secure, lit glass display cabinet or on a dedicated mantelpiece where its intricate stem cutting can catch and refract natural light.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear consistent with age, variations in glass colour or bubble inclusion from historical manufacturing methods, and period-accurate engraving styles.

These items were typically hand-blown from heavy lead crystal, which allowed craftsmen to apply intricate diamond-point engraving, wheel-cutting, and facet-cutting techniques to the stems and bowls.

Jacobite glasses are historical drinking vessels covertly engraved with secret symbols, such as roses, oak leaves, or specific portraits, used by supporters of the exiled House of Stuart to toast the exiled monarch.
