Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century French Provincial glazed dresser follows a traditional French chateau style in painted oak, rendered in a pale pink finish. The upper section displays an arched pediment above a pair of multi-pane glazed doors, opening to reveal a green interior with visible iron fiche hinges, alongside simple metal drop handles on the two frieze drawers below. The lower base contains fielded and moulded panel cupboard doors fitted with small escutcheons and square block feet. This substantial storage piece measures 246 cm high, 160 cm wide, and 58 cm deep. Such a combination of display and enclosed storage makes this painted dresser well suited for a dining room or kitchen to organise tableware, linens, or decorative collections. The combination of the glazed upper cabinet and lower cupboards provides versatile storage options while contributing a distinct provincial character to an interior space.

FAQs

A French glazed dresser, historically referred to as a buffet deux corps, is a traditional two-part cabinet featuring a cupboard base with drawers topped by a glazed display upper section. Popularised in 18th and 19th-century regional France, these pieces provided both practical storage and a means to showcase household porcelain and glassware.

These cabinets were typically built using regional hardwoods such as oak, fruitwood, or walnut, as well as softwoods like pine. Construction techniques included mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved panels, glass panes held with wooden glazing bars, and long iron exterior hinges known as fiche hinges.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, irregular or wavy hand-blown glass, original wrought iron or steel hardware, and evidence of historic wear or layered paint finishes along timber joinery and edges.

Position the piece as a focal point against a neutral wall, filling the upper shelves with curated ceramic tableware, glassware, or art books. The muted exterior finish contrasts well with contemporary minimalism, warm textiles, and natural flooring.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays or excessive moisture. Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement, flaking paintwork, or cracking.
