We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, castors were designed to sprinkle granulated sugar, pepper, or spices over food at the dining table. They became prominent dining room features, reflecting the wealth and status of the household.

Georgian castors were crafted from sterling silver using raised sheet metal techniques, casting, and hand-piercing. The decorative patterns were applied using chasing and embossing, while the tops were precisely fitted to allow controlled sifting.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish to prevent severe tarnish. Storing the piece in a dry, low-humidity environment away from direct sunlight helps prevent accelerated oxidisation.

Silver castors make decorative accents when placed on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or dining table centrepiece. They integrate well with contemporary dining settings, bringing historical texture to curated display areas.

Authentic pieces feature British hallmark stamps including a makers mark, purity mark (passant lion for sterling silver), town mark, date letter, and the monarchs duty mark. The weight and construction details, such as hand-drilled piercing, also indicate genuine period craftsmanship.
