The George V period spans from 1910 to 1936, characterised by a blend of traditional styles influenced by late Victorian and Edwardian aesthetics, alongside the emergence of early Art Deco designs.

Authentic period frames typically feature a sterling silver front sheet attached to a wooden backing, often oak or mahogany, supported by a hinged wooden or metal strut.

Authenticity is verified by checking for British hallmarks stamped directly onto the silver, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a town mark such as the Birmingham anchor, and a date letter.

Such pieces add a touch of historic craftsmanship when displayed on mantelpieces, bookshelves, or side tables, contrasting effectively against contemporary minimalist furniture.

Silver should be cleaned sparingly using a specialist non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to remove tarnish while preserving the delicate hallmarks and patina.
