Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mid-19th-century silver-plated meat plates are large oval serving platters manufactured using electroplating techniques developed during the Victorian era. Designed for formal dining, these vessels were engineered to present large roasts at dining tables.

These platters feature a base metal core, such as nickel silver or copper, electroplated with a layer of fine silver. Borders were often reinforced with decorative cast rims, such as gadrooning or rope-twist moulding, to add structural rigidity.

Authentic Victorian pieces generally carry makers marks or electroplate stamps, such as EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver), near the rim or on the underside. Additionally, period items often display hand-engraved armorial crests or monograms alongside gentle surface wear.

Large silver platters can be displayed vertically on plate stands inside china cabinets or mounted on dining room walls to reflect light. Placed flat on a sideboard or kitchen island, they serve as structural bases for barware, candles, or decorative centrepieces.

Clean silver plate using a soft cloth and specialised silver polish formulated to remove tarnish without stripping the underlying plating. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, or dishwashers, and dry thoroughly after hand washing in warm, soapy water.
