Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using a mild, non-abrasive detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking. Harsh brushes and chemical cleaning agents should be avoided to protect the historic surface integrity.

A vibrant glass decanter functions effectively as a decorative accent on a sideboard, bar cart, or open shelving unit, catching natural light to highlight its deep colour. It can be displayed alone as a sculptural object or paired with complementary crystal glassware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-blown characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, minor bubbles or striations within the glass, and hand-ground stoppers that fit uniquely to the specific neck. Weight, depth of colour, and wear marks on the base also indicate age.

These pieces are typically crafted from heavy lead glass or flint glass, shaped by free-blowing or mould-blowing techniques. The characteristic wide, flat base was specifically engineered to provide stability on ships at sea, preventing tipping during rough voyages.

Bristol blue glass is a distinct type of dark cobalt-blue glassware produced primarily in the English city of Bristol during the late 18th century and later revived in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It achieved its rich colour through the addition of cobalt oxide to the glass batch.
