Description:

Here is a fine quality antique English 17th century style carved open Victorian oak bookcase, measuring 4ft wide, circa 1880, with good colour, fine quality carvings and in excellent original condition.  Incorporating a single-plank top with a carved moulding, the Victorian oak bookcase is decorated profusely with 17th century style floral and leaf carvings along the moulded top, frame and plinth of the bookcase.  It was fashionable during the Victorian period to replicate furniture in the style of earlier period, especially with 17th carvings.  The Victorian oak bookcase consists of three adjustable shelves (the shelves can be removed from the bookcase if required).  The wooden pegs can be moved up or down to adjust the height of each shelf.  The bookcase stands on a moulded plinth and retains its original backboards.

Condition Report:

Here is a fine quality antique English 17th century style carved open Victorian oak bookcase, measuring 4ft wide, circa 1880, with good colour, fine quality carvings and in excellent original condition.  Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item.   The bookcase has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand in our workshop, therefore it boasts a lovely rich dark oak colour.  The Victorian bookcase retains its original carvings, which are all in excellent original condition.  The oak bookcase stands on its original plinth and original backboards.  The adjustable shelves and adjustable pegs are all intact (the bookcase comes with two spare pegs).  This oak bookcase is solid in joint and ready to use.
