Art Deco French Silver Paste Duette Fur Clip Brooch

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Corvidae Antique
Description

Two elegant matching dress or fur clips which can be worn separately or joined together to wear as a single substantial brooch with the "duette" fitting. The baguette and old-cut pastes are beautifully bright and sparkly and the piece is sturdily manufactured in solid silver.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A duette brooch is a convertible piece of jewellery introduced during the 1930s, consisting of two separate dress or fur clips mounted onto a single metal frame. Wearers can wear the piece as a unified brooch or detach the clips to wear them individually on lapels, collars, or shoes.

Art Deco costume jewellery typically utilised silver, white metal alloys, or rhodium-plated brass set with faceted paste stones, which are high-lead glass cut to imitate diamonds. Baguette and round brilliant cut paste stones were common, held in pave or claw settings.

Authentic pieces from the 1930s display geometric patterns, stepped forms, and mixed stone cuts such as baguettes and round pastes. Look for functional spring-hinged clip backs, dual-prong fur mechanisms, or frame patent numbers stamped on the reverse.

Vintage jewellery pieces can be incorporated into interior spaces by displaying them inside glass-topped shadow frames, resting them on marble trays, or placing them on velvet dressing table stands as tactile decorative accents.

Avoid submerging paste jewellery in water or liquid cleaners, as moisture can damage the foil backings behind the glass stones and cause discolouration. Clean gently using a dry, soft microfiber cloth and store in a dry location away from humidity.
