Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Georgian silver encompasses pieces made during the reigns of Kings George I to IV (1714-1830), characterised by classical proportions, intricate hand-engraving, and robust craftsmanship influenced by Rococo and Neoclassical design movements.

These items were typically forged from sterling silver using traditional smithing techniques such as raising, casting, and hand-chasing, often featuring pierced work, applied borders, and articulated swing handles.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the metal, which typically include the makers mark, standard mark (such as the sterling lion passant), assay office mark, and date letter.

Such pieces can be used as a striking centrepiece on a dining table, displayed on a sideboard, or utilised to hold decorative items on a mantelpiece, contrasting antique metalwork with contemporary surroundings.

Preservation requires storing items in tarnish-resistant cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips in favour of gentle, periodic polishing with a specialist silver cloth, and keeping them away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
