Georgian Plain Stem Oil Lamp

18th century
Description

This is a Georgian, plain stem glass oil lamp (sometimes but erroneously called a lacemaker's lamp) dating from the second half of the 18th century. A similar example can be seen in Keith Kelsall's book - "The Open Flame Lamp" on plate Q60.

The lamp is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200+ years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The lamp has an ovoid-shaped bowl reservoir measuring 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter. The bowl sits on a plain stem that leads to an upturned "drip tray" foot with a folded over rim that measures 10.5 cm (4.2 inches) in diameter. The lamp is 14 cm (5.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any evidence of restoration.

It weighs 210 g. (~ 7 1/2 oz.).

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
