Georgian Double Series Opaque Twist Ale Glass, C1765
£205 $274 €239
This is a Georgian, English tall double series opaque twist ale glass dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1765.
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has an extended bell-shaped bowl measuring 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a double series opaque twist stem consisting of two white enamel cords wound around a central gauze. The stem ends in a conical foot which measures 7.2 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter. The glass is an impressive 21.3 cm (8.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is an unburst bubble in the metal of the foot along with some white inclusions dating from manufacture.
Lead glass weighing in at 190 g. (~ 7 oz.).
