Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

A joint stool is a sturdy wooden seat constructed using traditional joinery techniques rather than simple nailing. Originating in the medieval period and remaining popular through the 17th and 18th centuries, these versatile items were frequently used as seating at the dining table or as side tables.

Joint stools are traditionally constructed from solid native timbers such as oak, elm, or ash. They feature pegged mortise and tenon joints, turned legs connected by low stretcher rails for stability, and overhanging tops with moulded edges.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, natural timber shrinkage, hand-cut pegs, and centuries of patination and wear. Reproductions often display uniform machine tooling, lack genuine oxidisation, and use modern fasteners.

A joint stool provides functional utility and historical contrast in modern spaces. It works effectively as an occasional side table beside a sofa, a plant stand, or as minimal seating that adds texture and warmth to a room.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity and temperature levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight. Cleaning should be limited to dusting with a dry, soft cloth, occasionally applying a quality microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber.
