FAQs

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, often lighter and less ornate than heavy Victorian pieces, frequently draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Sheraton revivals.

Cabinet makers of this era commonly utilised timbers such as walnut, mahogany, and satinwood, often featuring solid construction with fine veneer accents and traditional joinery techniques.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, traditional wood finishes like shellac or wax, and timber shrinkage consistent with age.

Pairing traditional dark wood shelving with contemporary neutral wall colours and a curated mix of books and ceramics creates a balanced, layered interior aesthetic.

Protect antique wood by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and applying occasional traditional beeswax polish to nourish the finish.
