FAQs

A balustroid gin glass is a form of drinking vessel featuring a shortened or simplified baluster stem, typically produced in England during the mid-18th century for consuming spirits.

These vessels were traditionally crafted from lead glass, introduced in the late 17th century by George Ravenscroft, which provided greater clarity, weight, and light refraction compared to soda glass.

Authenticity is determined by examining characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, inclusions or tiny air bubbles within the metal, wear scratches appropriate to age, and the distinctive heft of lead glass.

Antique stemware can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, utilized on open shelving to catch ambient light, or incorporated into table settings as unique focal points that contrast with modern ceramics.

Historic glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, harsh chemicals, and dishwashers to prevent surface crazing or damage.
