Description

Handsome 16th century Italian walnut cassone raised on lion's paw feet which are later replacements.

The three moulded panels are decorated with floral carving typical of the period. It has the unusual feature of a front opening for a small locked storage space. So this piece was probably not a trousseau chest but more of a domestic or even a church piece.
