A toastmaster glass is a historic drinking vessel featuring a deceptive design with an extremely thick, solid base that gives the illusion of holding a large measure of spirit while actually containing only a tiny amount, allowing the host to toast repeatedly without becoming intoxicated.

These glasses were traditionally manufactured using lead crystal or flint glass, which provided the high clarity, weight, and refractive properties characteristic of the period.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit features such as pontil marks on the base, minor surface imperfections or inclusions within the metal, wear scratches consistent with age, and the characteristic greyish-blue hue of early lead glass.

Antique drinking glasses can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, styled on bar carts as part of a curated vignette, or used functionally for intimate dinner parties to add historical texture to a table setting.

Antique glass should be hand washed gently in warm water using mild soap, avoiding sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth.
