A rummer is a heavy-duty drinking glass popular during the 18th and 19th centuries in Britain, commonly used for serving wine, beer, or punch in homes and taverns.

These pieces were typically crafted from lead glass, offering clarity and weight, and were either hand-blown into moulds or free-blown with applied feet.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil scars on the base, inclusions, uneven thickness, and characteristic wear consistent with age, alongside specific foot designs such as the lemon squeezer style.

Grouping antique glassware on open shelving, within a glazed cabinet, or using them as small bud vases introduces tactile transparency and historic character to modern schemes.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive sponges to prevent thermal shock and surface scratching.
