This is an English, Georgian, gadrooned tankard dating from the late 18th century, c1780.
The tankard is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear to both the rim of the bowl and to the rim of the foot. It has a rough pontil mark on the base.
The glass has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 7.8 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is decorated with simulated trailing to the top and with gadrooning to the lower third. The strap handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then to the bottom where it ends with a well-formed curlicue. The base measures 7.2 cm (2.9 inches) in diameter. The glass is 13.8 cm (5.5 inches) in height. There are a couple of small inclusions in the metal of the bowl, one just under the rim. There is some light scratching to the inside of the bowl caused by historical over zealous cleaning. . There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any other obvious eviden...ce of restoration.
It is made from English lead metal weighing in at 455 g. (~ 1 lb.).
