Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Afghan Baluch carpet displays a hand-knotted wool construction in a rectangular format measuring 166 cm high, 95 cm wide, and 1 cm deep. The palette combines deep madder red, dark indigo, and ivory tones across a repeating geometric lattice field filled with stellar guls. This central panel sits within a thick dark border decorated with angular latch-hook vines and flanked by zigzag guard stripes. Fringes run along both short ends, and the wool pile shows even wear across the surface. The traditional design fits well in a gentleman's library, study, or hallway, where it functions as a decorative floor covering. Placed on hardwood or stone flooring, the textile provides a warm foundation underfoot while introducing traditional tribal motifs and rich colour to an interior scheme.

FAQs

Baluch rugs were traditionally hand-woven by nomadic tribes inhabiting the border regions between eastern Iran, southern Turkmenistan, and western Afghanistan, reflecting regional tribal motifs and weaving techniques.

These carpets are constructed predominantly from local hand-spun sheeps wool for both the pile and foundation, often dyed using natural vegetable dyes to create deep, dark shades.

Authentic Baluch rugs feature a soft, pliable handle, a dark colour palette dominated by deep reds, navy, and brown, small geometric repeat motifs, and often flat-woven kilim bands at the ends.

A Baluch rug can be used to ground minimalist or contemporary rooms, layered over neutral natural-fibre floor coverings, or paired with rich timber and leather furnishings to add visual texture.

Vacuum gently using suction only without a rotating beat-bar, rotate the rug annually to distribute foot traffic evenly, and employ specialist professional textile cleaners for spot removal.
