Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Baluch rugs were traditionally woven by nomadic tribes along the borderlands of Iran and Afghanistan. A double mihrab design features opposing niche motifs at either end of the central field, representing prayer arches integrated into geometric tribal patterns.

These rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for the pile, typically built upon a wool warp and weft foundation. Natural dyes derived from local plants and minerals create the characteristic palette of dark red, indigo blue, and earthy brown.

Authentic Baluch rugs feature soft wool, dense hand-knotting, and a dark, saturated colour scheme dominated by deep reds and dark blues. Key indicators include geometric border motifs, stylized animal shapes, and slight asymmetry inherent to handloom weaving.

A tribal prayer rug serves as a textural focal point when placed on light wood flooring or layered over a neutral flat-weave carpet. Its rich colours and geometric patterns complement both dark academia schemes and minimalist contemporary settings.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only attachment without a rotating brush bar to avoid disturbing the wool pile. Treat spills immediately by blotting with an absorbent dry cloth, and employ a specialist textile conservator for periodic cleaning.
