Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Afghan Baluch wool rug, dating from 1920, exemplifies traditional tribal craftsmanship with a flat pile and very fine hand-knotted construction. The rectangular piece displays a panelled layout of repeated geometric mihrab arches alongside serrated hooks and stylised borders. Terracotta red, rust orange, and dark navy form the primary palette, complemented by visible fringed ends at both top and bottom edges. Minor overall wear appears across the surface alongside intact structure without damage. Measuring 1 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 86 cm deep, the textile functions practically as a floor covering suited to domestic interior spaces such as a study, library, or hallway. The traditional motifs and rich tones provide a grounded foundation for various interior design schemes, bringing historical character to contemporary living areas.

FAQs

Baluch rugs are hand-woven textiles traditionally crafted by Baluch nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes near the border regions of Afghanistan and Iran. These rugs are recognised for dark colour palettes, geometric repeating motifs, and architectural panel structures.

These rugs are predominantly woven using natural hand-spun wool for the pile, warp, and weft. Plant and mineral dyes are traditionally applied to create deep red, rust, brown, and dark navy shades.

Authentic Baluch rugs demonstrate hand-knotted weave structures with subtle colour variations known as abrash. They feature flexible wool foundations, geometric or mihrab motifs, and soft hand-spun wool pile.

A Baluch rug can be placed on light timber or stone flooring to anchor a seating area or home office. Its saturated geometric design complements minimalist and mid-century contemporary furniture.

Vacuum the rug regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotary beater bar to preserve the pile fibres. Attend to liquid spills immediately by blotting with a dry cloth, and utilise specialist hand-washing services for deep cleaning.
