Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver snuff boxes originated in the late 17th century and peaked in popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries. They were designed to hold finely ground dry tobacco, known as snuff, and served as prominent personal accessories that reflected the owners social status and taste.

These boxes were primarily fashioned from sterling silver, often featuring detailed repousse relief work, chasing, engraving, or engine turning. The interior surfaces were frequently washed with gold gilding to prevent the tobacco from tarnishing or reacting with the silver.

Authentic pieces carry British hallmarks stamped into the metal, including a makers mark, a purity mark such as the lion passant, a town mark, and a specific date letter. William IV era pieces from the 1830s also feature the sovereigns profile duty mark.

A decorative silver box can be styled on a desk, coffee table tray, or shelf within a vignette of leather-bound books and glass objects. It functions both as an accent piece and as practical storage for small personal items.

Silver boxes should be polished gently using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth and specialized silver polish to remove tarnish without wearing down relief details. Storing the piece in a dry, low-humidity environment inside an anti-tarnish cloth helps preserve the metal.
