William IV Scottish Antique Silver Snuff Box, John Caw 1831

£3,450    $4,418    €4,163
An extremely scarce William IV Scottish silver snuff box. Made in Edinburgh in 1831 by John Blackwood Caw a rare maker. The top is a cast relief of men playing cards in a tavern, probably after David Teniers the Younger, the Dutch artist. The box has a full set of hallmarks inside and the interior is gilded. It is in excellent condition with minimal rubbing to the high points. This is a well known item, it features in Eric Delieb''s book ''Silver Boxes'' and in ''British Silver Boxes, the Lion Collection''. With such great provenance it is a valuable item.
