Aaron Nejad Carpets and Rugs has dated this piece to the 1880s.
However, the most outstanding thing about this piece is the striking design. The central row of hooked diamond medallions is complemented on both sides by matching halved diamond medallions. The design feels archaic and very pure. There are very few filler ornaments. And there is a wonderful reciprocity in the interaction of the latch hooks. The ivory main border with a classic serrated leaf and 'wine glass' border is well drawn and typical of Karabagh rugs of this period. All in all, this is a fascinating rug with great presence. The condition is excellent. It has been professionally cleaned.
