This immaculate Caucasian kilim was woven in the Kuba district of the Eastern Caucasus in the last quarter of the 19th century. Technically, it is a masterpiece with fine wool and wonderful dyes. The quality is exceptional too. The design is dominated by the repeating stylised lighting palmette, often referred to as a ''racing car'', but derived from 18th century Kuba ''blossom'' carpets. This piece has survived in exceptional condition, having been hung up for most of its life.
