FAQs

A Sewan Kazak rug is a traditional Caucasian tribal carpet woven in the South Caucasus, characterized by a prominent central medallion often referred to as a shield or cruciform design inspired by regional architecture.

Traditional Kazak rugs are hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun wool for both the pile and the structural warp and weft foundation, coloured with dyes derived from natural plant and mineral sources.

Authentic pieces feature symmetrical Ghiordes knots, all-wool construction with a flexible foundation, organic dye variations known as abrash, and bold geometric iconography without printed motifs.

A Kazak rug acts as a visual anchor when positioned over neutral timber, stone, or polished concrete flooring, complementing both period timber furniture and minimalist modern silhouettes.

Vacuum regularly using suction only to protect the pile, absorb liquid spills immediately with an undyed cloth, rotate the rug annually to balance sunlight exposure, and use specialist rug cleaning services for periodic maintenance.
