Description

This is a handsome late 19th century French walnut Escritiore cabinet with carerra marble top dating from around 1890.

The cabinet has a good serpentine shape to the front and sides with attractive bookmatched walnut veneers throughout. This has all of its original decorative ormolu mounts and escutcheons and original working lock and key to the fall front and drawers. The original Carrera marble top is in good condition overall. (Small corner repairs at the back, not really noticeable).

The top three dummy drawers are in fact a fall front cabinet which opens to reveal a beautiful Birds Eye maple veneered interior with an arrangement of shelves and drawers and a Green baize lined inset writing surface. There are three long drawers beneath the cabinet and the piece is raised on a curved serpentine base with ormolu mounts.

The cabinet has lovely proportions measuring 125 cms in height 64 cms wide by 36 cms deep.
