Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century French parquetry chest of this form combines a tall, narrow vertical footprint with decorative geometric wood veneers known as parquetry. Originally designed for daily linen or clothing storage, these pieces feature multiple graduated drawers, often accented with cast brass or bronze mounts.

Cabinetmakers employed a solid timber carcassfrequently oak or pinesurfaced with thin veneers of contrasting exotic hardwoods such as kingwood, rosewood, tulipwood, or walnut. Handles, keyhole escutcheons, and protective corner mounts were typically cast in brass or gilded bronze.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, original secondary woods on drawer linings, and hand-cut veneer work with minor age-related shrinkage lines. Hand-cast brass hardware with natural oxidisation on the reverse also indicates period manufacturing.

Due to its vertical orientation, a tallboy or semainier fits into narrow alcoves, entryways, or bedroom corners where floor space is limited. The natural timber tones and geometric patterns add texture and visual depth when paired alongside clean-lined contemporary furnishings.

Maintain a stable indoor humidity level to prevent veneer lifts or cracking. Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually; avoid chemical spray cleaners or water-based solutions that can compromise animal-glue adhesives.
