Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Vaseline glass is a type of glass that contains uranium dioxide, giving it a distinctive yellowish-green tint that glows under ultraviolet light. It was widely produced from the mid-19th century through the early 20th century, reaching peak popularity during the Victorian and Art Deco periods.

These lighting fixtures typically combine moulded, blown, or pressed glass shades with metal fittings made from brass, bronze, or plated iron, suspended by chains or rods connected to a ceiling canopy.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor hand-finished imperfections, such as mould seams, tiny air bubbles within the glass matrix, and appropriate patination on the metal components. Additionally, genuine Vaseline glass will fluoresce brightly under a blacklight due to its uranium content.

Hanging the fixture as a focal point over a dining table, in an entryway, or within a kitchen space adds period character while contrasting cleanly with minimalist contemporary furnishings.

Gently wash the glass shade using lukewarm water and mild soap, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can damage vintage finishes. Dust the brass components softly and refrain from using aggressive metal polishes that strip historical patination.
