Sold by: The Earring Curator

These beautiful antique gold earrings are set with real (dried) iridescent green beetles - commonly called Egyptian scarabs, but more accurately a leaf or tortoise beetle. These scarab pieces combine a massive revival of 19th century interest in all things Egyptian with the Victorians'' love of jewellery containing real natural objects, such as insect and butterfly wings.

• Size: Approximately 4.7 x 1.7cm. The scarabs measure approx 1.4 x 1cm.
