Georgian opaque twist glasses feature stems decorated with white or coloured enamel glass threads, typically produced in England during the mid-18th century following the introduction of the Excise Act.

They were hand-blown using lead glass, with the internal opaque twists formed by drawing and twisting rods of enamel glass within the molten metal before shaping.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the pontil mark on the base, the weight and greyish hue of the lead metal, and the microscopic surface wear known as age-related scratches or sleeks.

These delicate pieces add historical texture and elegance when displayed within glass-fronted cabinets or utilised as sophisticated focal points on open shelving.

Antique glass must be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and never placing them in a dishwasher.
