18th Century Oak Coffer With Carved Rosettes

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Harrington Antiques

An 18th century oak coffer with an unusual carved rosette design.

The coffer has a two plank top with original iron loop hinges above a three panel front, each surrounded by a pierced border scattered with tiny carved rosettes, and within each a pattern of five larger rosettes. The whole is raised upon four stile feet, the front two with the rosette border.

The coffer has marking and areas of fading to the top, as well as bow to the planks which has resulted in a small gap. The coffer appears to have been historically varnished and evidence of ''dripping'' can be seen to the underside of the lid where the small gap between planks is present.

An attractive coffer of good size and unusual design.
