FAQs

The Edwardian period, spanning from 1901 to 1910, often featured revival styles drawing inspiration from Georgian and Neoclassical motifs, characterised by lighter, more delicate ornamentation compared to the heavy Victorian aesthetic.

These items were typically manufactured using a base metal such as copper or nickel silver, which was then coated with a layer of pure silver using electroplating techniques, often complemented by hand-chased or machine-engraved surface patterns.

Authenticity is generally determined by examining makers marks, hallmarks, or electroplate stamps (such as EPNS), alongside evaluating the weight, wear patterns, and the style of the cast decorative handles and borders.

Such pieces can be utilised as functional coffee table accents to group decorative objects like candles and glassware, or mounted vertically on a wall as a reflective decorative element.

Conservation requires regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional gentle cleaning using a non-abrasive silver polish formulated specifically for plated items to prevent wearing away the thin silver layer.
