During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Indian silversmiths produced intricate items often featuring traditional local flora and fauna motifs tailored for export and the British colonial market.

These pieces are typically crafted from high-grade solid silver, utilizing traditional hand-chasing, repousse, and engraving techniques to create deep relief patterns against textured backgrounds.

Authenticity is determined by examining weight, handcrafted irregularities, age-appropriate tarnishing, and often partial or missing maker marks typical of colonial artisan production.

Small decorative objects like this add a layer of historical texture and metallic contrast when placed on a dressing table, bedside unit, or coffee table display.

Preserve the metal by avoiding harsh chemical dips, instead using a soft microfibre cloth to gently clean dust while retaining desirable natural patina in the recessed areas.
