Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Dwarf candlesticks are low-profile candle holders that typically measure under six inches in height, gaining popularity in the 18th and 19th centuries for use on dining tables and desks where taller holders would obstruct the view.

These pieces are usually crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring a weighted base filled with resin, plaster, or wood to provide stability for the low-profile stand.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks stamped into the metal, which indicate the maker, assay office, standard of silver, and date letter, alongside period-appropriate manufacturing techniques like seamless casting or weighted construction.

They can be placed on mantelpieces, side tables, or as a centrepiece on a dining table, pairing the reflective metallic finish with minimalist tapered candles to create a sophisticated focal point.

Silver should be cleaned using a specialist microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage weighted bases or applied hallmarks.
