Description

A beautiful rare solid silver Indian, or most like Ceylon, table box. It is unmarked but tests as high grade silver. I would date it to c1920. It has been beautifully hand made being embossed and chased with a elephant to the lid and base. It is in superb condition being free from dings holes and repairs. It measures approx. 3 inches (7.6cm) across by 1.75 inches (4.5cm) wide by 1.25 inches (3.2cm) tall and weighs 72 grams. A superbly designed beautiful example.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Colonial silver from this period typically features intricate repousse and chased ornamentation, often depicting local flora, fauna, and cultural motifs with high purity metal content.

These items were predominantly handcrafted from high-grade solid silver using traditional hammering, repousse, chasing, and hand-engraving techniques passed down through generations of local artisans.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-chased details, natural patination in the recesses, tool marks consistent with manual fabrication, and occasionally maker marks or purity stamps typical of colonial export silver.

This type of small decorative object works effectively when placed on a bookshelf, coffee table, or desk surface as a focal point or used functionally to store small keepsakes.

Preserve silver by avoiding harsh abrasive polishes, cleaning gently with a soft microfibre cloth when necessary, and maintaining stable humidity levels to prevent accelerated tarnish.
