Edwardian bookmarks gained popularity during the early 20th century as literacy rates rose and reading became a widespread leisure activity, often produced in whimsical or floral designs.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, frequently paired with natural gemstones such as amethysts, crystals, or agates, often reflecting regional motifs like the Scottish thistle.

Authentic pieces typically feature British hallmark stamps indicating the metal standard, assay office, and date letter corresponding to the early 1900s.

Vintage bookmarks can be displayed on reading desks, coffee tables within decorative trays, or used functionally to add a touch of historical charm to open shelving displays.

Antique silver should be cleaned gently using a non-abrasive microfiber cloth and specialist silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage natural gemstone settings or remove intentional patination.
