Victorian scent bottles typically feature hand-cut or moulded glass bodies paired with hallmarked sterling silver screw caps or hinged lids, often embellished with chased or embossed floral and scroll motifs.

These pieces were crafted using lead crystal or soda-lime glass, frequently flashed or cased in coloured glass such as cobalt blue or cranberry, and combined with sterling silver worked by traditional silversmithing techniques.

Authenticity is determined by examining the silver components for British hallmarks indicating assay offices and dates, checking the glass for hand-cut facets and age-related wear, and inspecting the inner stopper mechanism.

They can be displayed in small groupings on mirrored trays, dressing table surfaces, or open shelving to introduce historical character, vibrant colour accents, and reflective metallic textures.

Glass should be gently washed with warm soapy water and a soft cloth, avoiding harsh abrasives, while silver mounts require specialist silver polish applied sparingly to preserve hallmarks and delicate chasing.
