Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A boat head ring, also known as a navette-style band, features an elongated setting shaped like the hull of a boat to house multiple graduating gemstones. This layout was prominent during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, offering a sleek profile with carved side galleries.

These rings were most frequently crafted from high-carat yellow gold, such as 15ct or 18ct, and set with precious gemstones like sapphires, rubies, and diamonds. The settings often utilised claw or flush mounting techniques integrated into carved gold shoulders.

Authentic pieces usually bear British hallmarks indicating the gold purity, assay office, and makers mark, alongside hand-carved detailing. Furthermore, gemstones from this period often display hand-cut facets, such as old mine or rose cuts, rather than modern machine precision cuts.

Low-profile boat rings pair well alongside smooth modern bands or simple gold stacking rings. Their flat setting makes them suitable for daily wear and easy to mix with contrasting metal textures or complementary gem-set pieces.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild liquid soap, and a soft-bristled brush to clear dust behind the settings. Avoid harsh ultrasonic cleaners or chemical polish, and dry the piece thoroughly with a soft cloth.
