Victorian Antique Silver Double Pomander, London 1896

Description

An extremely rare and important Victorian antique silver double pomander on a stand. Made in London in 1896 by the company of Saunders and Shepherd. It is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs. It consists of two pomanders in the shape of poppy heads on stems which are placed in the leaf shaped stand. All items are fully hallmarked and there are also registration marks on the base. The seed head of thr poppy comes off to allow replenishing of the perfume. Pomanders reformed a similar task to a vinaigrette.
