Guilloche enamel is a decorative technique involving precision mechanical engraving under translucent enamel, which gained widespread popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras for luxury desk items and jewellery.

These items were typically forged from sterling silver, often featuring handles crafted from bone, ivory, mother-of-pearl, or decorated with vitreous enamel over metal.

Authenticity is determined by checking for official British assay office hallmarks, makers marks, and evaluating the quality of the hand-chased ornamentation and enamel work.

It can be displayed on a home office desk, resting on a stack of books, or showcased within a glass-topped display table to highlight its craftsmanship.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and moisture to protect the enamel, and clean the silver sparingly using a soft microfibre cloth without harsh chemical dips.
