We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver gilt, also known as vermeil, consists of sterling silver base metal that has been coated with a thin layer of gold through an electrochemical or fire-gilding process, offering the appearance of solid gold at a lower cost.

Victorian silversmiths frequently utilised traditional methods such as hand-chasing, embossing, and mercury or electro-gilding to apply the gold layer over hallmarked sterling silver.

Authenticity is typically verified by locating official British assay office hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the standard of silver, the makers mark, and the specific year of manufacture.

These pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets or styled on tabletop vitrines, adding a touch of metallic warmth and historical texture to modern dining or living spaces.

Silver gilt should be stored in tarnish-resistant, acid-free lined boxes, kept away from direct sunlight, and cleaned infrequently with non-abrasive cloths to avoid wearing away the delicate gold layer.
