This is a large enamelled white glass vase dating from the middle of the 19th century, c1850, and attributed to Harrach Glassworks of Bohemia. The vase is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 170 years of use. The vase has a baluster-shaped body measuring 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter at the pouring rim which is gilded to the edge. The bowl is in white opaline glass decorated at the neck with an ochre coloured band. The body is enamelled to one side with the head of a helmeted woman, probably a deity, within a gilded Greek key cartouche. The Greek key decoration is continued in a large medial ochre band and there is also a basal band of ochre decoration. The vase ends in a small foot that measures 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter.
