19th Century Venetian Latticino Striped Dram Glass

Description

This is a small, Venetian filigrana (vetro a retorti) opaque twist dram glass, probably dating from the 19th century.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows light age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has a bell-shaped bowl measuring 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is formed from white enamel canes of different forms within clear glass and sits on a three knop single series opaque twist stem (central gauze). The stem ends in a conical foot which measures 5.3 cm (2.1 inches) in diameter and which is decorated in the same manner as the bowl. The glass is 9 cm (3.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, other significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

Soda glass weighing in at 85 g. (~ 3 oz.).

Provenance: from the estate of the late George Withers.
