This is a Georgian engraved and cut taper shaped decanter dating from the late 18th century, c1790.
The decanter is in excellent condition for its age. This means, of course, that it shows age related wear and tear consistent with some 200 years of use.
The decanter is taper shaped. The neck is cut with Twelve vertical patel flutes and there is a basal band of finger flute cutting. There is a medial band of engraved olives within squares enhanced by florets. The base features a large polished out pontil mark to its centre, and measures 10 cm (4 inches) in diameter. The decanter is 23 cm (9.2 inches) in height without the stopper and 28 cm (11.2 inches) in height with the stopper inserted.
The stopper is a facet-cut clipped disk, and is possibly the original. It is of the same colour and metal as the decanter and is a good fit.
There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
Lead glass decanter ...weighing in at 685 g. (~ 1 lb. 8 oz.).
