Georgian Pair Of Jacobite Engraved Double Series Opaque Twist Wine Glasses

This is a pair of rare Georgian, English, Jacobite-engraved double series opaque twist wine glasses dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1767. The glasses were made some twenty years after the second Jacobite rebellion but the celebration of the Stuart cause continued well into the 19th century.
 
The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. They show age related wear and tear to the rims of the feet consistent with some 270 years of use. They have rough pontil marks on the undersides of the feet.
 
The glasses have rounded funnel-shaped bowls measuring 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are engraved with an open six-petal rose and a closed bud representing the House of Stuart and Bonny Prince Charlie respectively. James Stuart (The Old Pretender) died in 1766 and the glasses were probably engraved after his death, hence the absence of the open bud that appears on earlier Jacobite glasses.
